Police: Las Vegas man on electric bike critically injured in weekend crash

A man riding an electric bicycle was critically injured Sunday when he made a sudden lane change and was hit by a car, according to Metro Police.

The crash happened about 8:25 p.m. on Sahara Avenue, east of Sixth Street, police said.

The car was headed west on Sahara in the leftmost of three travel lanes while the bicyclist was straddling the right lane and the bus lane, police said.

“A collision occurred when the bicyclist made an abrupt, unsafe lane change across all westbound travel lanes,” police said in a statement.

The cyclist, a 62-year-old Las Vegas man, was taken to University Medical Center, police said.

The driver of the car, a 21-year-old Las Vegas man, was not injured, police said. He did not show any signs of impairment, police said.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
