Las Vegas getting $1.4 million to improve pedestrian safety

The city of Las Vegas is getting a $1.4 million federal grant to improve pedestrian safety on Fremont Street, U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., said.

The city will test “adaptive technology, significantly reducing pedestrian-related crashes and improving traffic flow along our community’s roadways,” Titus said in a statement.

The pedestrian-detection system will allow people enough time to safely cross the street.

The city will test the system around Fremont Street, which includes the Fremont Street Experience, where large numbers of pedestrians cross intersecting streets to reach hotels, casinos and restaurants.
