Winds that have been prevalent this weekend across Las Vegas are decreasing early Sunday morning and will continue to lighten by the evening, the National Weather Service in Las Vegas said.

Southwest winds brought gusts up to 60 mph on Saturday, causing damage to trees, power lines, light poles and buildings, the service said. Nevada Energy reported power outages for 25,000 customers. The utility was also dealing with outages in Northern Nevada caused by snow, but said late Saturday most power had been restored.

The climate station at Harry Reid International Airport recorded a wind gust of 68 mph Saturday — the highest wind gust on record since March 27, 1985.

The wind gusts reach 71 mph at the North Las Vegas Airport and Red Rock Canyon.

The weather service advises residents to stay indoors during severe weather events. If outside, watch for flying debris during heavy winds.
