Las Vegas police: Schools locked down after crash, barricade situation

Nearby schools were locked down this morning after an occupant in a vehicle involved in a crash refused to follow orders, resulting in a barricade situation, police said.

The person was subsequently taken into custody, police said.

The crash was reported about 7:45 a.m. at Pecos Road and Rosario Circle, police said. The area is near Cyril Wengert and Will Beckley elementary schools.

SWAT team members and crisis negotiators responded after an occupant refused to comply with orders, police said. The incident was deemed a barricade, police said.

Metro announced about 9:15 a.m. that the occupant was safely taken into custody. No additional details were immediately released.

The investigation was ongoing, police said.
