Chipotle reverses protein policy, says workers can choose chicken once again

Chipotle says its employees can choose chicken again. Last week, the chain asked its U.S. and Canadian employees to temporarily select another protein for their work meals to preserve the company’s supply of chicken. The directive applied to both corporate staff and restaurant employees. The Mexican restaurant chain’s chief corporate affairs and food safety officer said on Thursday that the directive has been rescinded and employees can return to ordering chicken with their meals. Chipotle says its reintroduction of chicken al pastor to menus in March led to higher-than-usual chicken demand and the employee directive was intended to make sure customers could get the popular dish.

Mexico’s chief detective apologizes for saying his country is the ‘champion’ of fentanyl production

MEXICO CITY (AP) — The head of Mexico’s detective service has apologized for saying his country is “the champion” of fentanyl and meth production. The comments Tuesday appeared to contradict past statements by President Andrés Manuel López Obrador, who has denied any fentanyl is produced in Mexico. The office of Felipe de Jesus Gallo, the head of Mexico’s Criminal Investigation Agency, said in a statement Thursday that “he used an inadequate word,” but didn’t specify whether the bad word was “champion.” The comments drew López Obrador’s ire Thursday. The president has long claimed that Mexican cartels only press it into pills or add finishing touches.
