SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — The FCC on has restored “net neutrality” rules that prevent broadband internet providers such as Comcast and AT&T from favoring some sites and apps over others. The move effectively reinstates a net neutrality order the commission first issued in 2015 during the Obama administration.. Under then-President Donald Trump, the FCC subsequently repealed those rules in 2017. Net neutrality is the principle that providers of internet service should treat all traffic equally. The rules, for instance, ban practices that throttle or block certain sites or apps, or that offer higher speeds to customers willing to pay extra.
Authorities in Maryland say a high school athletic director used artificial intelligence to impersonate a principal on an audio recording. They say the clip contained racist and antisemitic remarks and quickly spread on social media. The principal was temporarily removed from his post at Pikesville High School in Baltimore County. Police say that Dazhon Darien faked the recording in January following discussions with the principal that his contract wouldn’t be renewed. Darien had been the subject of a theft investigation at the school. He now faces charges of theft, disrupting school activities and retaliating against a witness.
