MOSCOW (AP) — In a story published April 17, 2024, about Russian forces being withdrawn from Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region, The Associated Press erroneously reported that almost all of Karabakh’s 50,000 ethnic Armenian residents fled the region within days of Azerbaijan launching a lighting blitz in September 2023. After Azerbaijan regained full control of Karabakh, which had a population of around 120,000, more than 100,000 of the region’s ethnic Armenians fled.
