Prosecutors say “Rust” armorer showed no remorse

SANTA FE, N.M. (AP) – Prosecutors pushed for the maximum prison sentence for the weapons supervisor on the Alec Baldwin movie “Rust” because they could not find an instance where she accepted responsibility for the death of a cinematographer in 2021. Special prosecutor Kari Morrisey told Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer yesterday she reviewed nearly 200 phone calls that armorer Hannah Gutierrez-Reed made from jail over the last month and could not find one in which Gutierrez-Reed expressed remorse. Sommer sentenced Gutierrez-Reed to the maximum 18 months in prison for involuntary manslaughter in the death of Halyna Hutchins. Baldwin's trial for involuntary manslaughter will start in July.

Fred Nguyen Khan polishes his Vietnamese while filming “The Sympathizer”

The actor who plays Bon in the new Vietnam War-era series “The Sympathizer” impressed his parents with his Vietnamese fluency after filming for eight months in Thailand. Fred Nguyen Khan is of Vietnamese heritage but was born in Canada. He says his command of the Vietnamese language got better during production, like he “went through this training montage from the ‘Rocky’ movies.” “The Sympathizer” is airing now on HBO.

New soap “The Gates” coming to CBS

LOS ANGELES (AP) – A new daytime drama focused on the lives of a wealthy Black family will air on CBS in January. “The Gates” will be about a family that lives in a gated community. Michele Val Jean, who has written for “The Bold and the Beautiful” and “General Hospital,” will be the series’ showrunner and an executive producer.

Paris Hilton calls for more regulation of youth treatment centers in California

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) – Paris Hilton is pushing for legislation in California to require more transparency from youth treatment centers about disciplinary measures. Hilton joined Republican and Democratic state lawmakers who have sponsored a bill that would require short-term youth residential centers to notify parents and the state whenever restraints or seclusion rooms are used on minors. Hilton says she knows firsthand about “abuse disguised as therapy” from her time as a boarding school student in Utah.
