Passenger killed in vehicle crash involving allegedly stolen pickup in Las Vegas

A passenger was killed in a vehicle collision in Las Vegas on Sunday, according to a Metro Police news release.

At about 3 p.m., an allegedly stolen Chevrolet Silverado carrying three passengers,was traveling east on West Laredo Street, approaching the intersection with Torrey Pines Drive. At the same time, a Dodge Challenger was traveling south on Torrey Pines approaching the same intersection. The Silverado failed to stop at a stop sign and the front of the pickup collided with the passenger door of the Challenger.

The pickup’s driver, Alexis Pineda, 26, and two of the passengers fled the area on foot, the release stated. They were all caught and taken into custody a short time later.

The occupants of the pickup and the driver of the Challenger were taken to the hospital for medical treatment.

The 63-year-old passenger of the Dodge, of New Bedford, Miss., was transported to UMC Trauma, where he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased.

Pineda allegedly showed signs of impairment, and he was arrested and charged with DUI, among other charges, the release stated.
