The Southern Nevada Health District announced today it is offering updated COVID-19 vaccines at its clinics.

Everyone 6 months of age or older should get at least one dose of the updated vaccines, which are expected to protect against the currently circulating COVID strains, the district said.

Amid an increase of COVID cases and hospitalizations, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and the U.S. Food and Drug Administration are encouraging people to get vaccinated against COVID. Flu vaccines are also recommended, the agencies said.

Vaccine protection from COVID declines over time, health officials said. The updated vaccines are similar to those available earlier in the pandemic but should protect against more recent Omicron strains, officials said.

People may get the COVID and flu vaccines at the same time. HealthDistrict clinics will have both available, and pharmacies and health providers should have them in stock as well.

The vaccines should be covered by most health insurance plans, officials said. Uninsured children and adults can get vaccines through the Vaccines for Children Program and Bridge Access Programs, respectively.
