Tyrese Smith rushed and passed for a touchdown today for the Liberty High football team in a 49-7 victory against Coronado in the league opener.
Isaiah Lauofo had a pair of touchdown runs, Andre Porter had an interception return for a score, and Donte Barnes and Gravis Lopez had touchdown receptions.
Liberty coach Rich Muraco said his offense had strong field position all game because of a great defensive performance.
Liberty plays rival Bishop Gorman next week in a league game. Usually, they play once a season — late in the playoffs. But realignment brings the first conference game in matchup history.
“It is going to be different,” Muraco said. “Every year, that is the game we look forward to. That is the standard. From a coaching standpoint, we’ll see how things work and make adjustments for when we hopefully see them again.”
