The Virgin Valley football team had to manage so many injuries this season that in some games the starting lineup certainly looked out of place.

They had players lined up at wide receiver on offense and defensive back on defense, but those players had no previous experience at this position.

The playoffs started Thursday and the Bulldogs are back to full strength, pulling away from visiting Democracy Prep for a 33-18 victory.

Kurt Felix, one of the returners, had 151 receiving yards and a touchdowns to lead the way. Quarterback Gunner Cortez rushed for two scores.

“If we are healthy, I think we can play with anybody,” coach Matt Woods said.

They’ll get that opportunity next week against SLAM Nevada, who hasn’t lost to a local Class 3A team in two seasons.

“We’ll have to play our butts off and play a great game to beat them,” Woods said. “But we are excited for the chance.”
