The opening of Durango Resort has been pushed back more than two weeks to ensure a “first-class opening of the property,” operator Station Casinos announced today.
Station’s latest entry into the locals casino market had been set to open Nov. 20. The new grand opening is scheduled for Dec. 5.
People who had booked hotel stays at the new resort between Nov. 20 and Dec. 5 will get priority booking for future dates or can be rebooked at a sister Station property, the company said.
Similarly, those with restaurant reservations impacted by the delay will be contacted to rebook at a sister property or for a future date at a Durango Resort restaurant, the company said.
Employees will be compensated for salaries and tips from Nov. 20 to Dec. 5, the company said.
Station broke ground in March 2022 on the $750 million resort at the 215 Beltway and Durango Drive. It is the company’s first new casino since Red Rock Resort in Summerlin opened in 2006.
Other Station properties around Las Vegas include Green Valley Ranch Resort, Palace Station, Sunset Station, Boulder Station and Santa Fe Station.
Station, whose parent company is Red Rock Resorts, permanently closed several properties that were shuttered in 2020 at the outset of the coronavirus pandemic: Fiesta Henderson, Fiesta Rancho and Texas Station.
It sold another of its shuttered properties, the Palms, in May 2021 to the San Manuel tribe in a $650 million transaction.
Durango Resort will have some 200 rooms and suites, restaurants, a food court, resort-style pool and 20,000 square feet of convention space.
The opening will come about a week before another new resort, the long-awaited Fontainebleau on the north end of the Las Vegas Strip, is set to open on Dec. 13.
