The man arrested in a triple homicide Tuesday at an apartment complex in West Las Vegas made his initial court appearance Wednesday and was ordered held without bond.

Spencer McDonald, 30, faces three counts of open murder with a deadly weapon and one count of attempted murder with a deadly weapon.

McDonald did not speak in court, and it’s unclear if he has a lawyer yet.

Metro Police on Tuesday responded to the apartment complex, in the 9100 block of West Flamingo Road after receiving a 9:03 a.m. report of a maintenance worker attacked and bleeding from the head from a non-life threatning stab wound.

Upon arrival, officers subdued the suspect, who they said was carrying a sledge hammer-type weapon while walking from the courtyard to West Flamingo Road. Officers checked the area and found three bodies inside an apartment at the complex.

Officiers later learned the maintenance worker and a second maintenance worker were attacked after entering the apartment with a key to do a welfare check. One of the deceased was the second maintenance worker, age 50.

Two of the bodies, a woman in her 80s and man his 40s, are believed to be related to McDonald and had been living at the apartment.

The stretch of West Flamingo Road has witnessed multiple homicides in recent years. The West Las Vegas apartment complex itself was the site of a 2020 homicide in which a man is accused of fatally shooting his brother.
