Metro Police

Metro Police reported that K-9 Kimura died Tuesday after suffering from an unknown medical emergency. The 6-year-old Dutch Shepherd had joined the force in 2016.

A Metro Police K-9 ended his watch over the Las Vegas Valley on the Fourth of July, after suffering from an unknown medical emergency at the department’s K-9 Operations Center.

K-9 Kimura was rushed to an emergency veterinary clinic by officers but died soon after, a release says.

The 6-year-old Dutch Shepherd had joined the force in 2016.

“He apprehended countless suspects including a man who was hiding from officers in a parking garage the day before he passed away,” the release says.

Kimura was known by the community for surviving a violent stabbing attack in April 2020.

“Kimura risked his life protecting police officers and was awarded the Purple Heart for his bravery,” the release says.

Earlier this year, Kimura competed in the Las Vegas Police K9 Trials and won the “Tough Dog” award.

“His loss will be deeply felt by his handler and his family, LVMPD K-9 Section, LVMPD SWAT, Major Violators teams and the citizens he served each day.”
