Palm tree leaves and the U.S. flag wave in high winds. The National Weather Service has warned of possible high winds up to 65 mph Tuesday through Wednesday morning.

The National Weather Service in Las Vegas has issued a high wind watch for Tuesday through Wednesday morning for a storm that will bring gusts of over 65 miles per hour to the valley.

“Wind gusts over 60 mph are possible along with blowing dust which will make for dangerous travel conditions. Ensure that loose items are secured,”  officials said in a tweet.

Officials said it is being classified as a major risk storm with the potential to cause blowing dust and debris, roof and tree damage, power outages and sudden crosswinds that can impact large vehicles.

They are comparing it to a similar storm system in March 2017, which caused gusts over 80 miles per hour, downed 60 trees and poles, overturned four semitrucks and left 48,000 residents without power at the event’s peak.

This week’s storm system will also bring rain and snow in some areas and colder temperatures throughout the week that will last into the weekend, according to the weather service.

Officials are encouraging residents to plan ahead for dangerous travel conditions and secure loose outdoor items like trash cans and patio furniture.
