Las Vegas gets $2 million for street improvements on Historic Westside

The city of Las Vegas is receiving a $2 million grant to improve streets in the Historic Westside neighborhood, U.S. Rep. Dina Titus, D-Nev., announced this morning.

The work will focus on Interstate 15, Bonanza Road and F Street, Titus’ office said. They said the grant money comes from the bipartisan infrastructure bill, officially known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act.

Titus said the work will include widening sidewalks, planting trees, and installing lighting and curb extensions.

“As we invest in our transportation infrastructure, pedestrians can’t be left out of the conversation,” Titus said in a statement. “The city of Las Vegas will be able to use this funding to enhance the walkability of District One and better connect our communities.”

The grant is part of the U.S. Department of Transportation’s Reconnecting Communities Pilot discretionary grant program, a national $1 billion effort over the next five years “dedicated to reconnecting communities that were previously cut off from economic opportunities by transportation infrastructure,” Titus’ office said.
