Snow Around Vegas

Snow covers the Spring Mountains as seen from the Late Night Trail Head at Red Rock, Friday, Dec. 27, 2019.

Holiday travelers to Las Vegas might be treated to views of snowy mountains surrounding the city.

The Spring Mountains could get their first significant snowfall of the winter between Wednesday and Friday, the National Weather Service said today. The snow would affect people living on Mount Charleston and in other rural areas.

Las Vegas could experience light rains on Tuesday. The holiday week will feature high temperates in the low-60s and overnight temperatures dipping into the 40s, the weather service said.

A spokesperson for the National Weather Service recommends that people traveling during this time check the forecast before hitting the roads. And those planning to drive in higher elevations, where snow is expected, should check the road conditions first to see what equipment is required for driving in that amount of snow.

Additionally, the National Weather Service always recommends drivers carry an emergency preparedness kit that includes items such as jumper cables, water and a flashlight.
