UNLV Rebels head coach Kevin Kruger calls out to players during the first half of an NCAA basketball game against the Stetson Hatters at the Thomas & Mack Center Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023.

The UNLV basketball game at Dayton scheduled for Wednesday night was postponed due to a shooting on the UNLV campus.

The Scarlet and Gray were set to take on Dayton at 6 p.m. A possible makeup date has not been announced.

“Due to the tragic events unfolding on UNLV’s campus, tonight's men's basketball contest between UNLV and the University of Dayton will not be played,” the statement read. “Further information will be released when available.  We ask that our fans keep the UNLV community in their thoughts and prayers.”

Shortly before 1 p.m., UNLV issued an alert for an active shooter. A short time later, Las Vegas Metro announced the shooter was dead and that victims were being transported to local hospitals.

Around 1:30 p.m., Dayton issued a statement saying the game would not be played as scheduled.

UNLV flew into Ohio a day early, arriving on Monday evening in order to acclimate to the three-hour time difference.

UNLV’s next game is scheduled for Saturday against Loyola Marymount at the Dollar Loan Center in Henderson. Due to the National Finals Rodeo taking over the Thomas & Mack Center, the Scarlet and Gray won’t play on campus until hosting Hofstra on Dec. 21.
