Foothill’s talented senior quarterback Mason Dew had a career night Friday against Moapa Valley in Overton, passing for six touchdowns and rushing for another in a 45-7 win.

“Mason Dew did his thing,” Foothill coach Vernon Brown said.

Moapa Valley is a perennial Class 3A power and frequently ranked among the top-10 teams — regardless of competition — in Nevada. Foothill, a Class 5A school, simply had too many athletes at the skilled position in giving Dew plenty of options.

Tarrell Mack Lovely and Devin Wake each had a pair of receiving touchdowns, while Ethan Stubbs and Joseph Mitchell also were on the receiving end of touchdown passes from Dew.

The effort of Foothill’s defense was also noteworthy. Last week, it surrendered 63 points against Clovis East of California.

“We fine tuned a lot of things and made a lot of corrections,” Brown said. “The guys responded. We had a good game plan. We knew (Moapa Valley) likes to run the ball and we did a good job of being ready to stop the run.”
