Shandon Matheson rushed for three touchdowns and 150 yards tonight for the Moapa Valley football team in a 34-18 win over host Hurricane of Utah to open the season.
Moapa Valley scored on its initial two possessions and never trailed.
“It was a good step forward, but we still have lots to work on,” coach Brent Lewis said.
Quarterback Talon Schraft connected with Tanner Hammons for a touchdown, and he also rushed for a 1-yard score.
When many games were canceled across Southern Nevada, Moapa Valley and Bishop Gorman were able to play complete games on the road in Utah.
“It didn’t rain a drop on us,” Lewis jokingly said.
