Man sentenced for attempted bank robberies in North Las Vegas

A Las Vegas man was sentenced to more than 11 years in prison by a federal judge Monday for three attempted bank robberies in 2021, according to a U.S. Attorney’s Office news release.

Jasmine Bernard Austion, 35, pleaded guilty in January to three counts of bank robbery.

On Oct. 26, 2021, Austion entered a bank in North Las Vegas and passed a note to a teller. The note asked for $20,000 and noted he had a gun. He fled the bank after being told 911 was being called, the release says.

Austion then ran across the street to another bank where he pushed an elderly customer and demanded money from the teller. The teller refused and Austion then fled to a third bank.

In the third bank, he passed another note stating, “I will harm people all money all drawers.”

The teller also refused, the release says. Austion responded by banging a fire extinguisher against a barrier separating him from the teller.

Metro Police SWAT responded and Austion was arrested, the release says.

Austion’s prison sentence will be followed by three years supervised release, the release says.

The FBI, Metro Police and North Las Vegas Police Department investigated the case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bianca Pucci prosecuted the case.
