Fire breaks out at junkyard outside Las Vegas

A pile of some 50 crushed vehicles caught fire at a Las Vegas Valley junkyard today, according to the Clark County Fire Department.

The fire was reported about noon in the 4500 block of E. Hammer Lane in the northeast valley, officials said. Crews had the main body of fire nearly extinguished and stopped the blaze from spreading, officials said.

Nobody was injured, officials said.

The fire scene remained active as of about 1 p.m. while firefighters worked to extinguish buried spot fires, officials said.

Firefighters from North Las Vegas and Nellis Air Force Base also responded.
