As the Bishop Gorman football team was shuffling seniors in and out of the lineup in the regular season finale tonight against Foothill, coach Brent Browner couldn’t help smiling at what he described as acts of kindness.

With the game being played under the mercy rule of a running clock, players were volunteering their spot in the game so senior teammates could get one last play for their beloved Gaels.

“Kids were sacrificing to make sure other kids could play,” Browner said. “Those are the type of kids we have on this team. They have a purpose. They were willing to do that for their teammate. That’s not normal.”

Gorman has outscored Las Vegas opponents 335-0 in five games, including 75-0 on Friday against Foothill.

Browner says the approach each week is similar to that at the beginning of the season when Gorman played Mater Dei in a battle of top-5 ranked national opponents.

“We are going to prepare for Faith Lutheran (in the first round of the playoffs next week) just like we prepared for Mater Dei,” Browner said. “We are going to give Faith Lutheran all of our effort. That’s the only way these kids know.”

Micah Alejado led the way against Foothill, completing 13 of 16 passes for 256 yards and five touchdowns. DeVon Rice rushed for 73 yards and a touchdown, while Micah Kaapana, Myles Norman and Jaxton Maile-Stites had touchdown runs.

Zachariah Branch led the receivers with five catches for 140 yards and two touchdowns, while Trech Kekahuna had two touchdown grabs and Elijah Palmer returned a punt for a touchdown.
