Antoine Taylor put up the kind of numbers tonight for the Basic football team that most players hope to get in a season.

Taylor, a defensive tackle, had seven sacks and four tackles for a loss and the Wolves held on to beat Durango, 27-25.

“He blew up the whole game,” Basic coach Jeff Cahill said of the constant pressure Taylor put on the Durango offense.

Durango had a 2-point conversion attempt to even the score late, but Anthony Sanitoa recorded a sack to secure the win.

Basic’s defense also scored a touchdown on a 60-yard interception return by Avonte Toombs. Later in the game, Toombs recovered a fumble, which was caused by Sanitoa.

Anthony Vega and Robert Wren had rushing touchdowns for Basic, who improved to 7-2 on the season.

“We feel good about our chances (heading into the playoffs), but we are still working on being consistent on both sides of the ball,” Cahill said.

Micah Reyes scored on a 90-yard catch and run for Durango.
