Spring Valley senior quarterback Mason DeCunzo found receiver Marco Godinez for a 60-yard touchdown to give the Grizzlies a 22-15 win over Clark Friday night.

Clark led the back-and-forth contest 15-14 in the fourth quarter before Godinez’s game-winning score. The teams were tied 8-8 after a defensive first half.

Godinez caught five passes for 119 yards and two touchdowns to lead the Grizzlies. With the win Spring Valley starts league play off on the right foot, two weeks removed from a heartbreaking defeat to rival Bonanza.

“This was huge for us,” Spring Valley coach Marcus Teal said. “We really felt like we were going to win that Bonanza game and it didn’t go our way. We had a bye week to think about what kind of team we are, and this week we came out and showed it and showed resilience.”

Spring Valley improved its record to 2-2 on the season and will host Durango next Friday. The loss drops Clark to 0-4 and the Chargers will be looking for their first win next week at Sierra Vista.
