Durango’s coaching staff challenged its offensive line going into the game at Las Vegas High on Friday night.

If the Trailblazers won the battle up front, coach Toby Henry said, they would earn their first victory of the season. The linemen were up to the task, as Durango mauled Las Vegas at the line of scrimmage en route to a 42-21 victory.

“We put it all on the offensive line and they held up really well,” Henry said. “We just ran the ball up the middle 30, 40 times.”

Both Justin Johnson and T.K. Fotu went for more than 100 yards, while Jayden Nersigner caught a touchdown pass from Kaden Renshaw.

Durango was just as strong up front on the other side of the ball, as it slowed Las Vegas’ rushing attack. The Wildcats’ first two scores were on a fumble recovery return and a kickoff return.

The former put the Trailblazers down 7-0 early and the latter allowed the Wildcats back in the game at 19-14, but Durango kept its composure.

“We answered both times and punched back,” Henry said.
