Rio Fire Evacuation

Fire trucks line the front of the Rio Hotel & Casino after reports of smoke coming from the 21st floor of the Masquerade Tower led to guests being evacuated Thursday, Dec. 29, 2016.

Power has been fully restored at the Rio after an outage left a portion of the hotel tower without electricity for about a week, the Clark County Fire Department said.

Hotel staff is cleaning the 500 rooms that were affected on floors 22 to 39, officials said.

VooDoo Nightclub and Lounge was reopened tonight and VooDoo Steak will open Friday night, officials said. VooDoo Zipline also has been cleared to operate.

The chain of events that triggered the outage and evacuation started Nov. 28, when a sink in a service area overflowed and shorted a fuse in the tower's power system. The hotel moved to a backup generator, which compromised by water from a fire sprinkler and it gave out the next morning.
