Mark Davis and David Beckham Make Stadium Presentation

Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis stands with local Raiders fans after a meeting of the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee on Thursday, April 28, 2016, at UNLV.

Las Vegas Mayor Carolyn Goodman told Andy Katz and Rick Klein of ESPN Radio’s "Capital Games" podcast today that Oakland Raiders owner Mark Davis was sincere in his intentions to relocate his team here.

“Mark Davis has assured us Las Vegas is not getting played in a Raiders stadium deal,” Goodman said. “I know we will have a team.”

Davis told the Southern Nevada Tourism Infrastructure Committee in late April that he’d pledge $500 million toward the construction of a $1.4 billion, 65,000-seat domed stadium. It would be built on a 42-acre lot UNLV purchased on Tropicana Avenue and Koval Lane near the Strip.

The project, a partnership between Las Vegas Sands and Majestic Realty, would require $750 million in taxpayer money through hotel-room taxes. Sands and Majestic would contribute $150 million.

The Nevada Legislature would need to approve the use of room-tax monies, and that would require a special session since lawmakers aren’t scheduled to meet again in regular session until 2017. Additionally, 24 of the NFL’s 32 owners would have to vote for the Raiders to move.

It’s a lot of moving parts, but Goodman seems confident the end result will be the Las Vegas Raiders.

“The Raiders will come if Nevada handles this properly,” Goodman said.
