Citizens who want to throw their hat in the ring for a Clark County Commission seat can do so starting today.

The filing period opened today and runs through March 18. Candidates must file in person from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays in the first floor of the Clark County Government Center, 500 Grand Central Parkway.

The four seats up for election are currently held by Democrats. They are:

• Commission Chairman Steve Sisolak, who was first elected in 2008. He represents District A, which includes portions of the southern and southwest valley.

• Commissioner Marilyn Kirkpatrick, whom Gov. Brian Sandoval appointed in August to serve out the remainder of Tom Collins' term after he resigned. She represents District B, which includes parts of the northwest and northern valley.

• Commissioner Larry Brown, who was first elected in 2008. He represents District C, which covers a large section of the northwest valley.

• Commissioner Lawrence Weekly, who has served on the commission since his appointed by former Gov. Jim Gibbons in 2007. He represents District D, which covers portions of western and northeastern Las Vegas as well as North Las Vegas.

County commission terms are for four years.

The 2016 primary will be June 14, followed by the general election Nov. 8. Both the primary and general election have early voting.

The filing fee for Clark County Commission candidates is $100. Candidates also need to bring a completed 2016 checklist and a form of identification, such as a driver's license or bank statement with your name and residential address.
