BOULDER CITY — Officials are deciding whether to permit the demolition of the Historic Boulder City Hospital where injured Hoover Dam workers were treated in 1931.
KSNV-TV reports a group of residents filed an appeal and temporarily halted the demolition. The former hospital has been listed on the National Register of Historic Places since 1982.
Developer and Boulder City Planning Commissioner Randolph Peter Schams owns the building and plans to tear it down in favor of a residential development.
The Historic Boulder City Foundation is trying to save the building. Member Keegan Strouse says an effort is under way to turn the facility into a museum dedicated to the Great Depression.
City councilmembers will decide on Sept. 22 whether to grant a permit for the demolition.
