An arrest warrant has been issued for former Las Vegas Township Constable John Bonaventura, who is facing misdemeanor counts of battery constituting domestic violence and coercion, according to Justice Court records.

A criminal complaint alleges that on or about April 17, Bonaventura grabbed the arms of Gloria Bonaventura, pulled her hair violently and forced her to write him a check for $9,500. The two were married at one time, but the Sun could not verify their current martial status.

The arrest warrant was issued on May 11.

Gloria Bonaventura and the attorney for John Bonaventura could not immediately be reached for comment.

John Bonaventura is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday morning.

His defense attorney, Robert Pool, is due to ask Justice of the Peace Melanie Andress-Tobiasson to withdraw the warrant on the case that was sealed when it was filed last week.

The Clark County Commission abolished the Las Vegas Township Constable’s Office, effective when John Bonaventura’s elected term expired in January.

After he was elected Las Vegas Township constable in 2010, the office was dogged by controversies, including allegations of sexual harassment, the filming of a profanity-laced reality television show pilot and the engagement in lawsuits against constable’s offices in other jurisdictions.
