High School Recruiting:

UNLV verbal commit, Gorman big man make ESPN recruiting list

Bishop Gorman vs. Findlay Prep - Jan. 25, 2014

Bishop Gorman center Stephen Zimmerman pulls a rebound away from Findlay Prep forward Justin Jackson during their game Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 at the South Point. Gorman won 76-72 in overtime.

He’s a top-30 basketball recruit. Well, at least at this stage of the evaluating process.

Findlay Prep forward and UNLV verbal commit Justin Jackson is ranked as the nation’s No. 29 overall recruit for 2016 in the ESPN 100, which was released Tuesday.

The 6-foot-9 Jackson, who committed to UNLV last September over the likes of Louisville and Arizona, averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game in 2014-15 for Findlay Prep while making 55 percent of his shots.

Bishop Gorman big man Zach Collins is also part of the ESPN list, moving 13 spots to No. 39. The 6-foot-11 Collins, who is verbally committed to Gonzaga, averaged eight points and six rebounds last season to help Gorman win a fourth straight state championship.

Evaluating sites such as ESPN update their rankings many times a year. On Rivals.com, for instance, Jackson is ranked as 2016’s 40th best prospect.
