Man arrested after barricading himself in east valley house

Updated Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2015 | 4:54 p.m.

A man was taken into custody after an hours-long barricade situation that led to a school lockdown in the east valley today, officials said.

Metro Police received a report about 10:15 a.m. of a domestic disturbance in the 5600 block of Blue Sea Street, near East Charleston and North Nellis boulevards, Officer Jesse Roybal said.

A man involved in that incident fled to another home on the same street and barricaded himself inside, Roybal said.

A suspect in the incident was taken into custody about 4:10 p.m., Officer Larry Hadfield said.

Kirk Adams Elementary School, 580 Fogg St., about 1.5 miles away, was locked down just after 3 p.m. due to the incident, Clark County School District Police Capt. Ken Young said.

Some students were being held until guardians could pick them up, Young said.

Nearby homes also were evacuated as a precaution, Roybal said.

SWAT team members and negotiators responded to the scene.
