CARSON CITY — Sen. Dean Heller is set to become the first Nevada lawmaker to lead a subcommittee on the powerful Senate Finance Committee.

Heller announced Friday that he will chair the Subcommittee on Social Security, Pensions, and Family Policy during the current congressional session. The Republican senator said in a statement that the position will allow him to better serve Nevada's 380,000 seniors.

Heller also announced that he would head a subcommittee on the Senate's Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. He said serving as chair of the economic policy panel would allow him to better represent the interests of Nevadans recovering from foreclosures and bankruptcies.
