Las Vegas-bound Allegiant flight slides off taxiway in Kansas

An Allegiant Air flight from Wichita, Kan., to Las Vegas late Sunday slid off the taxiway due to weather conditions, with part of the plane's landing gear coming to a halt off the tarmac, according to a statement from the airline.

Allegiant Flight 405, which had 161 passengers and six crew members aboard, was headed for McCarran International Airport from Wichita Dwight D. Eisenhower National Airport about 11:20 p.m., according to the statement.

The plane was moving and "as it began taxiing, weather conditions worsened significantly, and wind combined with freezing rain" resulted in the aircraft sliding, according to the statement.

The National Weather Service reported icy conditions and freezing rain causing dangerous driving conditions in Wichita late Sunday.

No one was injured aboard the plane, and passengers were taken to hotels in the area, the statement said.

The flight was rescheduled and left Wichita today at 7 p.m. local time, according to Allegiant.

Passengers were offered $100-off vouchers for future flights, and they were allowed to change their reservations or receive a total refund.
