A man soliciting money in the median of Tropicana Avenue was hit by a Hummer and critically injured this morning, Metro Police said.
The man, about 40 to 50 years old, was hit about 9 a.m. near Decatur Boulevard when he stepped into the eastbound lanes of Tropicana, police said.
A 2006 Hummer H3 was approaching a green light when the man walked in front of it, police said. The vehicle hit the man and knocked him to the ground, police said.
The man, who has not been identified, was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition, police said.
