Executive director named to Board of Medical Examiners

CARSON CITY — Edward O. Cousineau, who has worked for the state Board of Medical Examiners for 10 years, has been named the board’s executive director.

The board, which monitors the conduct of doctors, interviewed six candidates Wednesday before choosing Cousineau, who has been deputy director since March 2010.

Cousineau will succeed Douglas Cooper, who resigned effective Jan. 1. The job pays $110,000 a year.

Cousineau will head a staff of lawyers, investigators and others who review the conduct of doctors. The staff makes recommendations to the board, which decides if a penalty should be imposed.

The staff closed 935 investigations in 2013. The board took disciplinary action against 31 doctors, according to the board’s 2013 annual report.
