Coroner IDs resident shot dead in home invasion

Updated Monday, Sept. 22, 2014 | 5:02 p.m.

A resident who was shot and killed in a home invasion in Las Vegas over the weekend has been identified as Monty Gibson, 48, according to the Clark County Coroner’s Office.

Police say the incident happened a little after 8 p.m. Sunday in the 1600 block of Broadmere Street, near Hualapai Way and Charleston Boulevard.

Officers tell KVVU-TV that two suspects tried to break into a home when Gibson and another resident confronted them. The station reports there was an exchange of gunfire that left one of the residents dead.

Authorities say one suspect was detained and they were looking for a second suspect in connection with the shooting.

Police haven't said whether the incident was random or whether the suspects and residents knew each other.

Sun reporter Katie Visconti contributed to this report.
