Paul Krugman’s article “French leader fails Europe, too” (Aug. 31) is right on point. France has been, is now and probably will in the future be scared to death of Germany. Many years ago, a French friend, exasperated by French government support of yet another European Union policy “proposal” from Germany, asked me, “Why are the roads of France lined with trees on both sides?” Answer: “So the German army can march in the shade”.
The European Union is nothing of the kind. It is “Greater Germany.”
