Updated Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014 | noon

A flight that took off from McCarran International Airport this morning returned after reports of an engine problem, an airport official said.

Allegiant Air Flight 580 took off about 8:45 a.m. for Bellingham, Wash, but soon after reported engine trouble, airport spokeswoman Christine Crews said.

"After noticing vibrations in the left engine, the flight deck crew made the decision to return to Las Vegas out of an abundance of caution," a statement from Allegiant said.

The plane, a twin-engine Boeing 757, headed back to McCarran and landed safely about 9:15 a.m., she said.

The plane had 132 passengers on board, she said.

Passengers were able to board a replacement aircraft that was scheduled to depart about 11:50 a.m., the Allegiant statement said.
