Video: Las Vegas couple awaits marriage license

It was almost a dream come true.

On Sunday, Las Vegas couple Kawika Leopoldo, 32, and Craig Oliveira, 26, told family in Hawaii they planned to tie the knot on the island, where same-sex marriage has been legal since December of last year. Then on Tuesday, a federal appeals court struck down Nevada's ban on gay marriage.

By Tuesday afternoon, Leopoldo and Oliveira were waiting in line at the county courthouse for a marriage license, prepared to stay until the doors closed. Instead, thanks to legal turmoil, they received an orange ticket that will hold their place in line until Nevada can offer marriage licenses for same-sex couples. The couple, who moved to Las Vegas in 2007 from Hawaii, went home.

"Once the word is set to go, we will be here in a heartbeat," Leopoldo said. "It's a milestone for the LGBTQ community, and I want to be a part of it."
