A portable classroom was heavily damaged by a fire late Saturday evening at an east Las Vegas school, according to a Las Vegas Fire Department release.

Firefighters received multiple calls at 10:27 p.m. reporting that heavy smoke was coming from Robert Lunt Elementary School.

Upon arriving, firefighters found heavy fire outside a double-wide portable classroom building.

According to the news release, the fire seemed to have started outside the portable classroom and spread underneath, burning the floor of the portable.

Firefighters were able to extinguish most of the fire within 10 minutes, but pockets of fire remained between two portable classrooms. It took around 30 minutes to put all visible flames out.

The floor in one of the two classrooms caved in, and there was exterior damage on three sides of the building and roof. Damage costs are estimated at $125,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation by Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Fire Investigators.
