Letter to the editor:

Texas voter ID laws are shameful

I don’t know of any industrialized nation in the world whose politicians make laws to prevent their own citizens from voting. What a black eye some Republican governors and the “Dirty Five” in the Supreme Court have shown the world in regards to voting in the U.S.

At one time we were the world’s model, but the world can now see just how hypercritical some politicians really are and how they are trying to rig the voting system.

We send observers to Iraq to see that the voting process is not being obstructed, but voter obstruction is what has been happening right here in our own country.

Since Gore/Bush, we’ve seen a lot of shenanigans at the polls. A dozen states now have voter ID laws, and after 150 years, Texas now has a form of a poll tax that will prevent thousands from voting. It’s shameful, and there’s no outcry from Washington, no outcry from the press, and nobody seems to care. One wonders what someone will come up with next to prevent people they don’t want from voting. It’s sickening and frightening.
