Bullhead City man drowns in Lake Mohave

Cabinsite Cove, Lake Mohave

A 37-year-old Bullhead City, Ariz., man drowned Sunday in Lake Mohave.

Christie Vanover, a spokeswoman for the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, said officials received a 911 call at 12:40 p.m. reporting the man had disappeared underwater. Initial reports indicated he was swimming out to retrieve a raft that had blown away at Cabinsite Cove.

Winds were gusting to nearly 20 miles per hour at the time. The victim was not wearing a life jacket.

Members of a dive class training in the area located the man about 40 feet under water and brought him to the surface. The man was taken to an Arizona hospital and pronounced dead at 1:38 p.m.

The Mohave County Medical Examiner will determine the cause of death and confirm the victim’s identity. The incident is under investigation.
