Las Vegas 51s:

Catcher leads 51s’ show of power in victory at Colorado Springs

Las Vegas 51s catcher Travis d’Arnaud’s trip to the minors won’t last very long if he keeps hitting like he did today. In his third game with the 51s, d’Arnaud launched two home runs in a 14-7 road victory against the Colorado Springs Sky Sox.

D’Arnaud, who finished 3-for-5 with 3 RBIs, was only part of the huge power the 51s put on display for their second straight victory, the third game in this four-game series. Second baseman Daniel Muno, first baseman Allan Dykstra, utility fielder Brandon Allen and pinch hitter Kai Gronauer all hit home runs, just part of the 51s’ 17 hits on the day.

Starting pitcher Darin Gorski left after recording only two outs but the bullpen was there to pick him up with Ryan Reid (2-0) getting the win. Of course, the 51s’ offense provided more than enough help.

At 6:05 p.m. Thursday, the 51s wrap up this series and then head to a four-game road series at Oklahoma City before returning to Cashman Field on June 17 against Nashville.
