The woman found dead in the street near an east valley elementary school Saturday morning was killed somewhere else and dumped at the scene, Metro Police said.
At the moment, homicide investigators only know the woman suffered some type of "unknown trauma," Metro said. An investigation is ongoing, and detectives are trying to locate witnesses who may have seen or heard what happened.
Metro received a call around 5:47 a.m. about a woman lying in the roadway on the 1200 block of Fairchild Street near Brookman Elementary School. When police and first responders arrived, they found the woman unresponsive and pronounced her dead at the scene.
It is the 71st homicide investigated by Metro this year.
Police are urging anyone with information to call the Metro Homicide Section at 702-828-3521 or Crime Stoppers at 702-385-5555.
