A man has been arrested in connection with the July 3 shooting that left a 14-year-old girl injured and 18-year-old Tyrell Melton dead, the North Las Vegas police said.

Miquan Burton, 18, was arrested about 10 a.m. today at an apartment in the 2900 block of Centennial Parkway after the District Attorney's Office issued a warrant.

He was booked at the Las Vegas Detention Center on charges of attempted murder, murder with a deadly weapon, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure and discharging a firearm from a vehicle.

Police believe Burton fired from a moving vehicle into a group of people standing at Via Maria Court and Rancho Del Norte Drive, hitting Melton and the girl.

The girl was able to run home, but Melton was pronounced dead on the 400 block of Rancho Del Norte Drive.

Police have not established a motive behind the shooting, but they believe it may be gang-related.

The investigation is ongoing.
