United Blood Services asking for blood donations

With less than a one-day supply of O-type blood for area hospitals, United Blood Services is in desperate need of blood donations.

The center is asking donors to visit one of its three Southern Nevada locations — 6930 W. Charleston Blvd., 601 Whitney Ranch Drive, Ste. 200, and 4950 W. Craig Road.

“Since a high percentage of regular donors gave blood earlier this year, many are not eligible to give right now,” said Steve Chitren, United Blood Services regional center director. “New donors are needed to fill the gap.”

Volunteer blood donors must be at least 17 years old, weigh at least 110 pounds and be in good health.

To schedule an appointment, call 877-827-4376 or visit the organization's website for a full list of upcoming blood drives.
