Metro Police officers are shown by the intersection of Fort Apache and Desert Inn roads after a standoff with a robbery suspect Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2014.

A suspect who barricaded himself in a car this morning following a series of robberies in the southwest valley surrendered and has been arrested, Metro Police said.

Eddie Rodriguez, 44, was arrested on four counts of robbery with a deadly weapon and four counts of burglary with a deadly weapon, police said in a statement.

Metro received reports just after 3 a.m. of multiple robberies at convenience stores in the area of Fort Apache and Desert Inn roads, Officer Laura Meltzer said.

The last reported robbery occurred in the 9400 block of Peace Way, Meltzer said.

Police saw a car matching the description of a possible suspect vehicle after the robbery and tried to make a stop, Meltzer said.

The car took off, and after a short pursuit, it crashed in a lot, Meltzer said.

The suspect then jumped out of the car with a knife and refused to surrender before barricading himself in the car, Meltzer said.

Rodriguez surrendered about 8:50 a.m. and was taken to the Clark County Detention Center, police said.
